ASSOCIATE DATA SCIENTIST – Data Visualization

About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join our Innovation Technology department. You would be a welcome addition to our rapidly maturing Data Science and Analytics group, at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Akron, Ohio.

Since its inception, Data Science and Analytics group’s project portfolio has continuously expanded to include projects in areas of business, tire manufacturing, and technology. The group’s members come from a broad range of backgrounds: Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering; Mathematics, Statistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Astrophysics, Entomology/Biology, and of course - Data Science.

This diverse expertise comes together to develop innovative tools and methods for simulating, modeling and analyzing complex processes throughout our company. We are eagerly searching for an individual to help us build exciting new digital capabilities and present our data products to our partners and customers.

Responsibilities

We hope you will be excited about having possibility to:

  • Develop and maintain engaging and intuitive web interfaces and dashboards that enable business analysts and engineers to explore and interact with data and analytical models built by the Data Science & Analytics group

  • Work closely with other Data Scientists in the group, IT engineers and business stakeholders throughout the company to integrate developed tools into dashboard / web interface solutions as well as static reports

  • Own the visualization products, which will provide the key touchpoints that enable the business stakeholders to gain insights and make decisions based on the models built by our Data Scientists

Education and Requirements

  • B.Sc. in computer science or related field

  • You have experience developing Web applications and are familiar with several technologies in the area of Web design: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, D3.js, node.js, Angular, React, Bootstrap

  • You are comfortable communicating insights through data visualization

  • You have knowledge of UX/UI design principles

  • You are skilled in several technologies for backend framework (Django, Apache Server, PHP, Nginx, Flask)

Preferred

  • In addition to B.Sc. in computer science you have 3+ years related experience or M.Sc. in Computer Science

  • Portfolio of highly aesthetical and responsive web interfaces, developed by the applicant. Bonus points if you have some of your work on GitHub

  • Experience with front-end toolchains (e.g., Grunt, Bower, etc.)

  • Experience with R/Shiny, Python

  • Experience with Business Intelligence platforms: Tableau, Qlik, Power BI

  • Demonstrated ability to setup and maintain APIs

Skills and Knowledge

We also value a good sense of humor

  • Strong communication skills : capable of conveying information concisely to diverse audiences; experience with communicating dynamics of complex systems in a concise and clear manner. Knowledge of foreign languages would be a plus.
